From 19 April in Southall Green, Southall Broadway, Greenford Broadway, South Acton, Acton Central and East Acton all landlords of two storey properties with at least four people (who are not from the same family) living in them will have to obtain a license from Ealing Council. Up until now, only landlords of properties that were three storeys or more had to get a licence. The change is being introduced in the areas of Ealing where the council most often gets complaints about landlords.
As a result, the newly licenced properties will face regular check-ups by council officers to make sure that the landlord has made provisions for fire safety, that bathrooms and kitchens are up to standard, boilers are safe and that homes are pest-free.
Currently, any properties in the London Borough of Ealing that have 3 or more storeys and five or more occupants are already subject to this scheme.
